We all set aside Memorial Day to remember those who have paid the ultimate price to ensure the liberties and priviledges we enjoy in our daily lives. It also is a reminder of how important it is to come together in our streets, shake each others' hands, and demostrate our commitment to living up to the dreams of fallen heroes. Coming together as a community on this day is important, even if Parades are simply fun.
It was an honor to walk in the City of Portage's Memorial Day Parade. I loved crossing paths with my mom's students from the 60s and 70s, Val's and my classmates from the 80s, fellow K College alumni from the 90s, the kids' coaches from the 2000s, supporters of my 2018 campaign for Congress, and those who have already been so supportive in 2024... I am grateful to be a part of such a wonderful community.
Special thanks to Mayor Patricia Randall and the Portage City Council (Jihan Young, Nikki Miller, Vic Ledbetter, and Jim Pearson pictured),
State Senator Sean McCann, County Commission Vice-Chair John Taylor and County Clerk Meredith Place, Dr. Ensfield and his DeLorean, and all the Kalamazoo County Democratic Party volunteers who walked with me... Sorry for slowing any of you folk down while I was shaking hands and talking with everyone I could along the route!
